Last week was a vey busy week, and this one will follow suite!
This week in math we worked on math properties. We discussed and worked on learning the associative, commutative, identity, and distributive properties. Students worked on identifying them, as well as reading a story problem and then writing the property. We also reviewed algebra vocabulary and reviewed for our test. We have one more review day on Monday and then will test on Tuesday. With the rest of the week, we will begin working on math review for MCA testing.
In language this week we began the first steps of our famous person research. We set up our notebooks to take notes about specific times in their person life, and then went to the media center to check out books and magazines. This first step has student researching and finding out all the information they can about their person. Students will be researching through April 23rd. Students will have class time every day to gather information through book sources, and through other sources located on the media center home page. On or before April 23rd, students should begin working on the outline and then the written paper. We will conclude this assignment with our wax museum at the end of May. As this date gets closer, I will give you more information about this event.
In science we finished up our animal adaptations unit. We did an experiment with “bird beaks” and food. Students had to use the beak to collect as much food as they could in one minute. We experimented with six different “beaks” and food types. After food collection, students had to determine which birds would be able to survive in their ecosystem and which wouldn't not. Students then needed to decided what adaptation the bird would need to go through in order to survive where they were. We reviewed for our test on Friday and will test tomorrow, April 1st. We will begin our next unit on Tuesday which will be Forces in Motion.
Students need to continue to AR read, and should be at 5 points.
On Wednesday students took their social studies test. They were given the opportunity to make corrections and turn it back in on Friday. They then began their next unit.
