We spent the first part of this week reviewing for the perimeter, area, volume and surface area test we took on Thursday. On Friday we began our new unit which will focus on fractions, decimals and percents. We spent time working on finding the Greatest Common Factor of two or more numbers. It is extremely important that students know their multiplication facts when finding the GCF of a number. If your child is still unsure of his/her facts, please take some time to practice them at home. We also did a review of the divisibility rules which are also very helpful in finding factors of numbers. We will continue to work on finding the GCF at the beginning of this week along with find the Least Common Multiple of numbers. We also practiced prime factorization by making factor trees.
Students are continuing to work on tapping into their creative writing skills by writing their own poetry. We will be introduced to our two last poems, The Tiniest Sound and Sensory Poem this week. This past week we work on our Alphabet Alliteration poem. Student followed the pattern adjective, noun, verb to complete an alliteration for each letter a -z. Those that wanted to add more alliteration to their poems were able to extend each line. By next week Monday, students should have the following poems completed: Color poem, Bio Poem, If I Were, Alphabet Alliteration, The Tiniest Sound poem, and Sensory poem. If your child has not yet shared these with you, please ask him/her about each poem. Next week we will be typing these to create our own individual poem book.
Last week in science student had the opportunity to explore the land and water biomes we have been discussing. Student were able to use the VR glasses to take a closer look at each biome. Students enjoyed using the experience of using the glasses. It was also very enjoyable watching them as well! Students also looked at Google Earth links to see a better view of each biome. On Monday we will finish our last lesson of this chapter. On Tuesday we will be doing some review in class for our test on Wednesday. Students can also log into their Google Classroom accounts and play the Quizizz game and complete the BoomCards to review as well. On Thursday we will discuss the final project for this chapter. Students will be creating a slideshow about the land or water biome of their choice. They will be sharing this project with a 1st or 2nd grade student.
Students should continue AR reading to obtain their goal. The last day to test for this trimester is March 8th.
