We had another busy week! This week we attended Pioneer Days on Friday where we had the opportunity to learn about how our ancestors lived. Students had a great time despite the muddy conditions! I hope your child shared some of his/her experience with you.
In math this week we have continued to work on multiplication facts as well as, working on place value of billions through ten thousandths. We also have been working on identifying and writing different forms of a number. First math test will be Monday, September 23rd.
This week in science we discussed how scientists need to try, try, and try again when they are working on an invention. We did an activity that involved cup stacking of various cups in various patterns. This activity gave us the opportunity to discuss how some projects/assignments may becoming frustrating. We related this to how inventors/scientists must work through this feeling to get to the final result. Another important part of being an inventor/scientist is working cooperatively with those around you. In this cup stacking activity, students also needed to rely on teamwork to achieve the final cup stacking goal.
Students are working on Typing Quest which is our keying program. Students will have the opportunity to work on fine tuning their typing skills with this program. Each student will need to complete all lessons. They may log onto albanyelem.weebly.com to work at home as well.
Albany Elementary has a recycling program called Trash 2 Cash. Students are encouraged to bring in the following items to promote recycling and raise money for their school! Items such as GoGo squeeze pouches get sent to a company where they are up-cycled into other materials. The goal of the company is to keep plastic out of landfills. Pop tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald house. Thanks for collecting!
