December 10 - 13
Last week turned out to be snowy and cold with several indoor recess times. One more week until Christmas break! We have a lot of material to cover, along with several extra activities to enjoy. On Wednesday we will be singing Christmas Carols at Mother of Mercy. On Friday we will be watching a movie for our Christmas party. Students may bring in an extra treat and beverage to enjoy during the movie.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
In math this week we began our next unit which will focus on rates and ratios. We have been learning about multiplication tables, unit rates, and equivalent ratios. We will continue with rate and ratio practice Monday and Tuesday, review on Wednesday, and test on Thursday. When we return from Christmas break we will begin our Geometry unit.
This week in science we continued our discussion about the changing Earth. We completed rock and mineral explorations and reviewed on Monday and Tuesday. Students we able to choose from 12 different activities to do to help review for our test which we took on Thursday. Look for these tests to come home on Tuesday of this week. On Wednesday, we had a wonderful guest speaker who taught us about wolves and their place in our ecosystem. This will be valuable information when we begin our chapter on ecosystems and habitats later in the year.
Students tested in Social Studies on Friday. They will begin a new chapter on Monday.
In language students are eagerly working on their Santa’s Hat stories. Final typed copies in Google Docs are due this week. We will read these stories, and do an activity with 1st graders on Friday.
