Thanks for taking time to read my weekly blog. I will update my blog once a week to give you some highlights of what has been happening in our classroom, as well as some important future dates.
We had a terrific first week of school. We are working on developing our daily routine. This is something that will take some practice, especially with class rotations in the afternoon. An important part of this process working smoothly is keeping our lockers clean and organized!
In math last week we began with reviewing our multiplication skills. Memorization of our multiplication facts is a concept which will continue to be of great importance throughout the year. Students should take some time to each night to do a quick practice of facts. This week we also talked about what math means to us, and what mathematicians notice to best solve problems. We used these skills to practice solving our own problem solving questions.
We will begin our class rotations beginning tomorrow, Monday September 9th. This past week we took time in the afternoon to practice rotating from classroom to classroom. In each room we learned to play a different game which we will be able to play in case of an indoor reteach time. In our room we played Mancala, Mr. Feldewerd’s room, Chess, Mrs. Snoberger’s room, Cribbage, and Mrs. Spohn’s room a version of Solitaire.
Up Coming Events:
Reminder that on Wednesday, September 11th, 5th Grade teachers will be holding an informational meeting about what to expect during your child’s 5th grade year in the Albany Elementary Media Center at 6:30pm. I look forward to seeing you then.
Picture Day is Thursday, September 25th. Your child will be bringing home a picture envelope. He /she may either bring it on picture day, or any other day up until picture day for me to keep at school.
Pioneer Days on Friday, September 13th. We will be having an early lunch, and then heading to Pioneer Park around 12:00pm. Thanks to all of the parents who volunteered to help chaperone this trip. We will meet you at gate 2 around 12:15pm
Have a great week.
