This week in math we worked on addition and subtraction of fractions with both like and unlike denominators. We also began working on adding mixed numbers with both like and unlike denominators. Most students have been doing a wonderful job of being able to apply the procedure we have learned. One skill we are continuing to work on is determining when a fraction needs to be reduced into its simplest form. We will continue working with subtraction of mixed numbers this week, and test on Monday, November 25th.
This week in science we continued to discuss our changing Earth. We have been learning about the affects of earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and landslides. We discussed both the change in the Earth, what causes these natural disasters, and also the devastation to human life. Students had the opportunity to begin choosing some online activities to further gain knowledge of how tectonic plates move and cause these changes. Students may not have the opportunity to complete all of these activities. They can always log on to Google Classroom under Science to investigate the activities they did not get a chance to complete in school.
Students will be finishing Chapter 3 in social studies, and are scheduled to have a test on Thursday, November 21st.
Students are nearing the end of the novel Hatchet. This novel generates a lot of wonderful discussion. I hope that your child has been sharing Brian’s physical and emotional progression through this novel.
Up Coming Events:
Tuesday, November 26th: End of 1st Trimester
November 27th - 29th: No School - Happy Thanksgiving
Friday, December 6th: Early Dismissal
December 10th -12th: In school vision and hearing screening with Nurse Morgan.
