This past week you should have received an email about the theme baskets that the Playground committee is assembling. If you have any further questions, please let me know. Please also be on the look out for an email this week in regards to signing up for a February conference time.
We have been continuing our work with geometric shapes this week. We used ratios to figure out if polygons were similar or not similar. Students also discovered a formula to use for figuring out the sum of angles for any polygon with any amount of sides. We have used this formula to figure out the sum of the angles with over a hundred sides. We also discussed the vocabulary words rotation, translations, reflection and dilations. Students began plotting order pairs to make an example of each of these. We will be testing on Wednesday.
This week in science we finished Chapter 10 which focused on renewable and nonrenewable resources on Tuesday with our unit test. Students will be bringing this test home on Tuesday, January 21st. We also began the first lesson of our next chapter. This chapter will focus on the many dimensions of an Ecosystems. As part of this unit, students will doing a short research project on a land or water biome of his/her choice which we will be sharing with 2nd Grade. This project will begin after we have learned about each of these biomes.
Students tested on Wednesday in social studies. They will begin their next chapter this week.
Students are continuing to practice their work with identifying the theme of various types of writing.
Up Coming Events:
January 20th: No School
January 22nd: Math Test
