This week in math we worked on subtraction of mixed numbers with both like and unlike denominators. These mixed numbers also included those that may need to be renamed before they were subtracted. This skill involves many steps which must be completed in a specific order. Most students have been doing a wonderful job of being able to apply the procedure we have learned. We will be reviewing adding and subtracting fraction skills on Monday. We will then test on Tuesday. We will begin a new unit when we return from Thanksgiving break. This unit will focus on rates and ratios.
In language this week we were introduced to and practiced the ACE strategy for writing complete responses. ACE stands for Answer, Cite, Explain/Extended/Example. This is a strategy students will be using for writing complete responses in all subject areas both on homework assignments and on tests. We also discussed adding some depth to our writing by using vivid verbs. These verbs help to make our writing more interesting, and helps to better convey what we are trying to tell our readers. This week we will discuss adding dialogue to our writing. After break, we will use these skills to begin another writing assignment.
This week in science we continued to discuss our changing Earth. We have been learning about the affects of earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis and landslides. We discussed both the change in the Earth and what causes these natural disasters, and also the devastation to human life. We will continue this discussion through this week with a hyperdocs activity. Next week we will discuss chemical and mechanical weathering.
Social test on Monday
