WOW! It certainly has been a crazy few weeks with the cold weather and snow. I am hoping that we will be able to settle back into a regular routine soon. Thank You to those who have been flexible with rescheduling conference times. If you are now rescheduled for the new date of February 28th, and are unable to attend, please let me know and we can schedule an alternative time.
In math we are continuing our work with perimeter and area of triangles, rectangles, and parallelograms. We have also been practicing finding the perimeter and area of composite shapes. A composite shape is a figure that can be divided into more than one of the basic figure. We also have been identifying shapes based on their nets. This is when a 3D shape can be opened or unfolded along their edges to create a flat shape. On Thursday we were introduced to, and practiced solving various volume problems of rectangles. We will begin work with surface area of shapes this week. If things stay on track, our test should be after we return from President's Day break.
Students are continuing to use their creativity in writing their own poetry. We have written a Color poem, Bio poem, and an If I Were poem. If your child has not yet shared these with you, please ask them to share them. Students will be reciting their memorized poems this week. I am hoping that students have also shared these with you as well. This week we will also be working on an Alphabet Alliteration poem. Students will need to take each letter of the alphabet, and write an at least four word alliteration for each letter. An example would be: The Anteater ate appetizing apples appropriately.
In science we are almost finished learning about land and water biomes. We will take some time to review all of these biomes this week. When we return from break, we will learn about food webs and energy pyramids. It is my hope that we will be able to test the last week in February. I will keep you posted!
Read, Read, Read. It is also I Love to Read Month. We are trying to earn checkers to add to the large Connect 4 board outside the office across from the Music room. We earn a checker each time our class reads 300,000 words. We can also earn them for various other activities we complete together in school as a team.
Up Coming Events:
February 11th, 12th, 13th - Recite memorized poems
February 11th and 12th - Conferences
February 13th - Valentine's Party
February 14th, 15th, 18th - No School - President's Break
