In math this week we reviewed on Monday and Tuesday for our test on Wednesday. This test consisted of skills in multiplying and dividing decimals, exponents, powers of 10, and divisibility rules. On Friday we moved into a new chapter which will focus on fractions. We discussed factors, greatest common factors and prime and composite numbers.
In language this week we worked on our Pioneer Days essay. Student typed a final copy which they turned into me using google classroom. We paid particular attention to fragment and run-on sentences. We also tried to find overused words such as cool, awesome, etc... and use an alternative word which would make our writing more interesting.
This week in science we finished up our last scientific process experiment. Students needed to write each step of the process we have been discussing since the beginning of the school year. Student based this lab on how many times they could fold a certain type of paper. Students were also given a study guide for this unit. We will review on Tuesday and then test on Wednesday. We will also be discussing an extra Science opportunity which will be taking place later in the year. I will be talking about Science Fest which is held in January at St. John's University. Students who are interested in attending will need to write a short essay on why they think Science important, and their favorite part of Science. Two students from each 5th grade classroom will be chosen to go based on this writing piece.
