We had a great Walkathon again this year. Plans were changed just a bit due to the rainy weather. We went to the high school to use the BECC. We spent half of our time doing activities in the gyms, and the other half waling on the track. It was a lot of fun! We definitely have some students who should be thinking about joining cross country and/or track in the future!
This week in math we took our Chapter 2 test on Tuesday. We began working on multi-digit multiplication. Students have been doing pretty well with this concept. Mistakes that are occurring have been with forgetting to use the 0 as a place holder when multiplying in the next place value and with multiplication facts. Students who were already comfortable with this concept worked on some multiplication enrichment activities. We will begin working on long division this week.
Students should have the rough draft of their Pioneer Days experience finished by Tuesday. We will use this writing piece as tool as we discuss various language skills. We are also continuing to fine tune our typing skills. Students should have all 15 lessons completed by the end of October. They can log onto this program from home as well to continue their practice.
In science, students are continuing to work on putting all of the steps of a good science experiment together. I demonstrated a "bad" experiment, and students did fantastic job of explaining what steps I did incorrectly. They also explained how I could fix the experiment so it followed the Scientific Method. We also worked on using our observation skills so that others could decide what we were describing just through a written description. This week students will have the opportunity to work on a penny drop experiment.
