Thanks for taking time to read my weekly blog. I will update my blog once a week to give you some highlights of what has been happening in our classroom, as well as some important future dates.
We had a terrific first week of school. We are working on developing our daily routine. This is something that will take some practice, especially with class rotations in the afternoon. An important part of this process working smoothly is keeping our lockers clean and organized!
In math last week we began with reviewing our multiplication skills. Memorization of our multiplication facts is a concept which will continue to be of great importance throughout the year. Students should take some time to each night to do a quick practice of facts. This week we also talked about what math means to us, and what mathematicians notice to best solve problems. We used these skills to practice solving our own problem solving questions.
Last week in language students began writing a few paragraphs about themselves to share with me. I am excited to read them, and get to know more about each of them. This week we will begin our first spelling lesson. We will have a list of 20 words to study, and will complete several workbook pages which will be due on Friday. On Friday, we will also have our spelling test. Students will be given 10 random words from the week's list, and will also need to use each of those 10 words correctly in a sentence. It is the hope that students will not only know how to spell the word, but also learn the definition as well.
In science we worked on some team building activities, and set up rules for working together in our classroom to Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe. Last week students also began working on a procedure to "Save Sam". We are planning to finish this activity on Monday. Please ask your child about this activity and if his/her group was successful!
Students have also been working hard in Social Studies with Mr. Feldewerd and in Reading with Mrs. Snoberger. Students should all be reading an AR book at least 20 minutes per night.
Up Coming Events:
Picture Day on Thursday, September 13th. Your child should have brought the picture form home this past week. He /she may either bring it on picture day, or any other day this week.
Pioneer Days on Friday, September 14th. We will be having an early lunch, and then heading to Pioneer Park around 12:00. Thanks to all of the parents who volunteered to help chaperone this trip.
Have a great week.
