Hope all is going well during distance learning! We are definitely all learning together. Some parents have reached out with questions these last few weeks. Please feel free to continue to contact me whenever you have questions. It is a great way to keep us all on the same page! As things begin to settle into more of a “normal” schedule, I hope to again send updates on a more weekly basis.
I am not sure how much of Google Classroom your child has shared with you, but there are several resources available for your child there. I do a weekly “news” video for them on the first day of the week. This video highlights some things from the past week and the up coming week. There are also videos for each of the subject areas. I have been reminding students to check each subject each day for assignments. On my next video for this coming week, I am going to highlight once again that though were are in distance learning mode right now, students are also showing us how responsible they can be. We would still like them to complete work in a timely manner when possible even though we are not in our normal classroom setting. I am still upgrading the grade book on a weekly basis. So if you are wondering about any missing assignments your child might have, you can also check there. I will also send an email when necessary regarding missing work. Students are also able to reach out in a Zoom session daily from 9 - 10am and 2 - 3 pm. I will also now have a Zoom session open from 11-11:30am for all 5th graders with Science questions. Students are also able to send me a private message through Google Classroom, or an email through their school Gmail account. Many students have done a great job of using these resources the past few weeks to reach out to me to ask questions they may have when working on an assignment.
In math we have just finished our unit on Algebra. We tested on Wednesday, April 14th. With all math assignments, except tests, once graded with comments, the score is released back to your child in his/her Gmail account through school. Your child may always resubmit any daily assignment with corrections. Many have also done this the past few weeks. We reviewed adding and subtracting fractions on Thursday, and on Friday we began our new chapter focusing on equations. This is a fairly short chapter, and we will test again on Friday, April 24th.
In Science we are learning about Forces of Motion. So far we have discussed different types of motion: circular, variable, constant, periodic, vibrational. Students also took a science related picture, and sent me a video this week to practice theses skills for when we do a few experiments during this chapter. I enjoyed looking at the pictures, and viewing the videos! Students will be recording their first demonstration video on Tuesday. If students are not able to complete any of the upcoming experiments because they do not have the resources, there will be an alternative Google Form assignment to complete.
Students should also be preparing for a Chapter 9 Social Studies test on Monday.
In Language students have begun working on their famous person project. Each student should have the name of their famous person, and have received a bag books to help in this research. These books were picked up with the initial Chromebook pick up from school in March. Mrs. Snoberger also has several videos, checklists, and an organizer for note taking in Google Classroom.
Up Coming Events:
April 22nd: Crazy Sock Day.
April 290th: Hat Day
Students can participate in theses activities at home, and also send photo for the school slideshow if they wish.
