The end of the second trimester is fast approaching. There will be several projects due as we wrap up the trimester. Please continue to ask your child questions about the progress he/she have been making to complete them. They can also share these projects with you through their Google Classroom account. We also have our trip to a GREAT Theatre performance on Wednesday so students will need to remember bring his/her own lunch on this day.
This week in math we began a new chapter focusing on fractions, decimals and percents. So far students have been working on converting decimals to fraction and fractions to decimals. We have encountered problems where the denominator is not a factor of 10, 100, or 1,000. In these cases we need to divide the numerator by the denominator. This process brings us back to a skill we practiced earlier in the school year where we need to add a decimal point behind the whole number being divided and then annex zeros.
In science this week we have been working on the research for our biome project. Each student has picked a biome they would like to learn more about. They also received a handout listing the project requirements that will need to included in the slideshow or hand drawn project. This week Tuesday students should have the research portion of this project done, and begin working on the presentation. The final project will be due on Wednesday, March 4th. We will present these projects on Thursday, March 5th to second graders.
Students are continuing to work on Chapter 7 in social studies. They will be testing on Tuesday, February 25th.
Students should be ready to recite the poem they selected to memorize this week. They are continuing to work on writing their own poetry as well. They have two poems left to write. The will begin typing their poems into a Google Classroom document this week. This project will be due on Friday, March 6th.
Up Coming Events:
February 26th: Trip to the Paramount
March 5th: Middle School Presentation(5th grade students only)
March 6th: End of Trimester; Early Dismissal
March 18th: Spring Pictures
March 20th: No School
